Easiest Refreshing Summer Treat
During the hot summer days we all need something fresh to fight the heat. This is a recipe that never lets you down and what I really like about it is that you can use it in various ways. You can consume it as it is, served with Greek yogurt (as I have done in this article), or lay it on a cheesecake, on a crostata, use it when making a cake – to moisten the cake and ad flavor with the strawberries, or even make different cocktails. So, you can do whatever you feel like doing! The amount of time this combination is let in the fridge changes also the way it tastes, varying from fresher to more marinate. The longer it stays in the fridge (max. 2 days), the more juice the fruit will release and the more caramelized the strawberries will be.
You can use white or brown sugar – I used the brown sugar, as I only had that kind. You can also add lemon or lime in case you do not have lemons at home.
Method:
Cut the strawberries in half/quarters or smaller chunks, depending on strawberries size and your preferences
Toss them with fresh lemon juice and sugar
Leave the bowl in the fridge depending on your preference – from few minutes (if you want to serve it right away) up to 1-2 days (for a stronger flavor)
